Feast of the Purification 2011

There will be Mass tonight…

The official website for our Tridentine community has the following notice,

“As of 11:00 AM Wednesday, tonight’s 7PM Mass for the Feast of the Purification is still scheduled to take place. Check back before going tonight for the latest status update.”

Holy Mass on February 2

Well, for those who observe “Polish Christmas”, Christmas ends this Wednesday, February 2, the Feast of the Purification of Mary.

We will have a High Mass at St. Josaphat with blessing of candles and procession at 7:00 PM.

Side Note: It should be noted that the author of this post is not Polish but does observe the custom of keeping decorations up until February 2 and encourages those reading this to take up this custom at home next Christmas. You can do this out of devotion to the Infant Jesus. Put your decorations up later (like the 3rd or 4th Week of Advent or even Christmas Eve) and keep them up until February 2.  At least keep up the nativity scene if you do not wish to leave out the tree and wreaths. Make next’s year’s Christmas something really special and prolong it by following this Polish custom.

IMPORTANT: Please check www.detroitlatinmass.org for Mass cancellation information. There is a small possibility that the 7PM Mass may be cancelled due to the snow storm. Please keep checking the above website and this blog for updates.
